My blog has a new look

Three-Column Template

The other day I stumbled across a site that explains how to turn a standard 2-column Blogger template into a 3-column template. So I thought I'd give it a try. The old format was starting to look rather cluttered.

What do you think of the new look? If you have problems viewing it this way, please let me know.

Entrecard

I also wanted to mention that I have recently gotten involved in Entrecard, which is a site that helps bloggers get additional exposure by advertising on each other's blogs. You get credit for "dropping" a card on an Entrecard member's site, and also for every time another Entrecard member visits your own site, and you can use those credits to buy advertising space on a blog of your choice. (And it's all free!)

So, if you found my blog through Entrecard, welcome! And if you are an Entrecard user and you find my blog interesting or useful to you, please leave a comment here.

Karen-I think the blog looks great. Much cleaner-I've been struggling to make changes on my own blog and you've pointed me in a good direction. Thanks! Funny how we kind of help each other out along the way and knowledge flows back and forth.

Love this knew look and was pretty impressed with the previous version! I have been wanting to comment at how user friendly you blog is. I love your topics, the Notable Dates and all the other links you've posted! Keep up the great work!!

Thanks! I got the idea from a site I happened to see, that used my exact same template and color scheme, but with the extra column on the left. I wondered how he'd done that, then yesterday I googled "blogger 3 column templates" and found the site I mentioned above, that explains it all very clearly with step by step instructions.

I'm not at all averse to "borrowing" ideas from other blogs or sites I happen to see. You're right, we can all help each other, and I think that's great.

Thank you so much! I'm so glad you are finding my blog useful. As for "user-friendly", well, I am a software developer, so I spend a lot of time in my job thinking about how to design user-friendly applications. This site is no different, except that I get to make all the design decisions. <g>

Your blog looks just fine, but boring. If you really want to expand your blogging horizons, you need to get your own domain and use WordPress. If you are a software developer, I'm very surprised you would use Blogger when WordPress is so far superior. ALL serious bloggers use WordPress.

Everybody has to start somewhere. <shrug> I've only been blogging since September, and although I've been spending more time on it lately, I still consider myself a novice blogger. Blogger may not be the best tool for everybody, but it does the job for me just fine, so I'm going to stick with it.

Hi Karen,
I think your blog is wonderful! I've been checking it out almost every day since November (about the same time I discovered Diana Gabaldon had a blog) and I think I'm more obsessed with Jamie and Claire now than ever!!

Thank you so much! "Obsessed" is a good word for it, but I prefer "addicted". <g>

If you haven't already, I would encourage you to check out the Compuserve Books and Writers Forum (link is on the right side of this page, just under the poll), which is the online community where Diana hangs out. We're always happy to welcome new fans over there, and if you have a question or a comment, I'm sure Diana would love to hear from you.

Welcome! I've been an Entrecard member less than two weeks, but I'm having fun with it so far.

I want to say, I think your blog is just fine!! If it had anymore, for me, it might just get overwhelming! I appreciated your blog of the day "On the Front Porch". Short, fun and provocative stories fit into my schedule and give me that jolt of reality I need to keep appreciating the little things in life!

Thanks. I really don't intend to tweak it too much more, unless I find something really interesting or useful to put on it.

And I'm glad you enjoyed that "Blog of the Day" site. That's one I found through Entrecard.

Just found you through Entrecard and am glad to find that someone else shares my love of these books! Is the new book about Jamie and Claire? (hope, hope)

:)

Hi Julie!

Glad you found my blog. That's one of the main things I was hoping to accomplish with Entrecard, to attract new readers who weren't aware of it before.

And yes, AN ECHO IN THE BONE (due out sometime this fall) is the 7th book in the OUTLANDER series, and will definitely feature the further adventures of Jamie and Claire! <g>

Hi Karen,

Yes, Ids, over at The Blogger Guide is my hero!

I, too, felt my blog needed a facelift and after trying unsuccessfully to upload some templates, followed Ids advice and successfully changed my blog template, so that I added a sidebar column and tabs up top. I'm delighted with these changes and think our hats have to go off to the wonderful resources Ids has made available.
