ECHO: Prologue and Part One
*** PLEASE NOTE ***
If you haven't yet finished Part One of AN ECHO IN THE BONE, you may want to read the comments here with caution, because you will encounter spoilers.
I have read a few people on the LOL forum say they were frustrated that Lord John and William are in the book a lot, but even though I am only starting Part Two, I am enjoying the book so far....although I hate that Mrs. Bug died and hate that Archie is "after" Ian now. Although, I do not see how Archie is going to be able to "sneak up" on Ian to get his revenge. I did read the "spoilers" on the LOL page and wish I had more time to sit and read this book so I can find out what is going on! The little ones in the house are not cooperating! *sigh* maybe I will have better luck this w/e! Kelly K.

I think the people who are not Lord John fans are going to have some difficulty with this book. You don't HAVE to like Lord John as a character in his own right in order to enjoy this book, but it certainly helps a great deal (especially if you have read BROTHERHOOD OF THE BLADE).
As for Mrs. Bug, I agree with you. I was shocked by her death. I totally did NOT see that coming!
Karen - I was so detached from reading (3 kids, 8 1/2, 6 1/2 and 16 months) that I didn't even know about the Lord John series until my SIL gave me one of the books - don't know which one since she also gave me ABOSAA and that is how my passion for "Herself", Claire and Jamie was re-ignited! I ran to the library to get caught up on what I had missed and here I am - obsessed as I ever was before! Lord John's books will just have to wait...seems I will have plenty of time after ECHO to read them before next book comes out!
When the whole scene with Mrs. Bug happened, I was racing through my mind as to WHO it could be if it weren't Arch - when it was revealed it was her, I was in total shock!
Only got to page 85 today, but keep your fingers crossed I get further along this w/e without losing too much sleep!

I'm thoroughly enjoying the book. Well, as much as one can with two kids down with the flu...so, my question is: There are 4 story lines going on here (the caltrop). I see that there's Jamie/Claire, Roger/Brianna, William/Lord John, what is the fourth? Is it the Revolutionary War? This is probably a dumb question, but I just want to make sure as I'm going through the book...
Thank you,
Sandra
Sandra:
The fourth storyline is Young Ian's.
Karen
Of course! Thank you :-)
I agree, Ian killing Mrs. Bug was a shocker plus the evilness of Arch Bug, can't quite reconcile to this being that Arch and Jamie were pretty close(Ardsmuir), but we really didn't hear much from Arch in ABOSAA, did we? I guess in real life, we all may have someone we were close too in which they've deceived us or hurt us in some way, so I guess it's not that far fetched! I have only read the Private Matter and I really did not like it, in fact I never finished it. I just got the other 2 LJ books on audio CD, so I'll listen to those while commuting, otherwise the LJ/William story is really not resonating with me right now.
I am enjoying the "Beauchamp" mystery, however and the letters from J&C that Roger/Bree found, great way to write the story!
I'm glad we finally have a table of contents!
Hi Karen,
Im loving the book so far. I must admit i am surprised at how much 'air time' William and John Grey are getting but i dont mind too much. I do love that Brianna and Roger are in it too...
There was always something about Mrs. Bug that bothered me. Like she was a know-it-all and resented it when others didn't listen to her. I wonder if sneaking the gold made her feel superior to Jamie, Claire, Briana and Roger. You know what I mean?
After everything Jamie did for them, she shot at him! Horrible woman!
Sorry, not feeling this book. Makes me verra sad, to say the least. Its not like I WANTED to not like it. I was on pins and needles for YEARS waiting so when I started reading and it sounded so NOT like the other books, I was confused and astounded!
Anyone else feel like this? So many things don't ring true to me! The closeness of J&C is not there. They do not speak the same. Things just don't jive. Tom Christie and Claires encounter, J&C dicussing Mr. Willoughby on the ship. C saying she hadn't thought about him in yrs-she had those acupuncture needles made just before they got on the ship, HOW could she NOT think about him when she thought about those needles?!
I have somemore but I'm done for now.
