David Berry is leaving OUTLANDER after Season 5

David Berry, who plays Lord John Grey on the OUTLANDER TV series, announced today on Instagram that his appearance in Episode 511, "Journeycake", will be his last on the show.

I'm sorry to see him go. Although he doesn't resemble the book version of Lord John at all, David Berry is an excellent actor, and he played Lord John with a quiet dignity and compassion that is very appealing to watch.

For more information, look here and here.

This makes me sad, I've enjoyed David's portrayal of LJG.

Very sorry to see him go.

It didn’t read that way to me... His character is leaving for England and we really don’t see him until the book ECHO. None of the other cast has said Goodbyes as they did when Duncan left the show or when Spoelers did.

I don't much care if he resembled the book version. Dave Berry has been a great Lord John and I shall miss his presence.

Just love David and his portrayal of Lord John. He will be sorely missed since he is impossible not to like!
Blessings, good wishes and much health Mr. Berry

This is like Chinese whispers.
There wasn't any announcement at all. In 511 he says goodbye to Jamie because he has been called back to Helwater as Lord Dunsany has passed and he needs take care of the family business and Lady Dunsany and take William there and teach him how to be an Earl. He merely says, Quote:

He said in response to a comment on Instagram, "final ep on show". That seems pretty definite to me.

I hope that the people saying that Lord John is just leaving for England are correct. Lord John does appear in later books and I would hate to have someone else play him. David Berry IS Lord John.

I love him!!!Such a great actor! Sad to see him go. 1st Murtagh and now him

People should remember the way Rik Rankin posted a comment that led people to think he had died when hung. Lord JG has nothing to do until Bk 8. Same book that Jennie returns to the story. So last contracted ep for LJG. Any more rests on renewals of 7, 8...

I thought his portrayal was perfect. He did an incredible job, and I grew to love him. In the books, I wasn’t a fan of John Grey.

Does it mean Lord John's character storyline from last books will be cut off? Or will they hire another actor? That is a pity, because I enjoy his storyline very much! I know I may be a minority, though.
I am bitter with what they did to Lord John's character, in the show they deprived him of the best scenes. I think the showrunners just do not like his character :(

I hope he is only meaning this season? There is still so much involved later for his character! If not, they could make changes like they have with other things different than the books. Love Lord John!! So very sorry if that is the end for him on Outlander.

I love David Berry as Lord John. Realistically, he is an actor, a good one, and in need of an acting job always.
All these actors are ON HOLD while this series plays out. Either his character will not be as he was led to believe fast enough or he had a great opportunity. He is very important to book 8.... and 9, probably. God Bless David Berry, who has a real life to worry about. I will miss him and look ahead for him.

There is also a chance that they will be making the Lord John books into a show so I don’t think we have seen the last of LJG or David Berry!

Good question! Well, maybe he will be back for one or two episodes and then gone again. Sad to see him go, happy travels Lord John!

2-3 years out before Lord John comes back into play. So many ifs! Starz has to do 4 more years . I so deeply hope he can come back then, but if not he is forever seated in my mind as Lord John.

TO hope this isn't for good He's got a role to play!

He isn't in the books again until book 8. Perhaps, since they're only contracted through season 7, one could assume he won't return (yet). Even if he has other projects until further notice, maybe when his character returns to the story, they will negotiate new contracts? Praying he returns as long as the story plays out as we hope it will.
