Charity fundraiser in honor of Diana Gabaldon's 70th birthday

A group of OUTLANDER fans online decided recently that they wanted to do something special in honor of Diana Gabaldon's 70th birthday. (Yes, it's not until January 11th, and they know that. Keep reading!)

So they asked Diana for the name of one of her favorite charities, and she suggested NPH USA. From their website:

NPH USA transforms the lives of vulnerable children in Latin America and the Caribbean by supporting the homes, health services and educational programs of Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos (NPH, Spanish for “Our Little Brothers and Sisters”). Together, we help children overcome poverty and become leaders in their own communities.

The fundraiser kicks off today, September 13, and the goal is to raise $70,000 for NPH USA by Diana's 70th birthday on January 11, 2022.

Here's what Diana Gabaldon had to say about this charity on Facebook:

I've been donating to the NPH (Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos) for many years. Back in the old days, pre-pandemic, I'd be invited to speak at various events, usually a book festival or a library program, and I'd donate whatever I'd been paid for such events to the NPH.

NPH is a community of orphanages in various parts of Latin America. (I know that any such description immediately causes the word "scam" to drift at least idly through one's head these days--but fwiw, the Catholic Bishop of Phoenix is sure they're legit, and I have never seen nor heard anything to the contrary.)

Please help spread the word to anyone you know who may be interested. The Twitter hashtag for the fundraiser is #Gift4Gabs.

I wasn't involved in putting this together, but I think it's a great idea, to show our appreciation for Diana and raise money for a good cause at the same time.

You can always check on charities at Charity Navigator. NPH-USA has a 3 star (Good) rating which means you can "give with confidence". Here is a link to the site if you would like more information.
