We have a collection and they work really well. I think the one you have pictured could be a barn lantern, too. It won't go out on a windy night, and if the cow kicks it over, the flame is protected. http://parkhousemuseum.com/Say Jayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04475007115985093269noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7379581147262228210.post-64404147202904076762013-02-02T01:34:15.390-05:002013-02-02T01:34:15.390-05:00Love these!! Don't you need a bit of oxygen to feed the flame? I would think that's what the tiny holes are for.

KarenKaren Henryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07635855088490793965noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7379581147262228210.post-54121663023642392092013-02-01T16:13:24.426-05:002013-02-01T16:13:24.426-05:00I think a dark lantern would look more like this, ...I think a dark lantern would look more like this, without the bullseye: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1880s-Police-Bullseye-Dark-Lantern-/321022031989?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4abe677875

No piercings, because they don't want anyone seeing the light.
Janet McConnaugheyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05943828858379262321noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7379581147262228210.post-33110556307995697542013-02-01T06:52:24.730-05:002013-02-01T06:52:24.730-05:00What a thrill to see the University of Glasgow sea...What a thrill to see the University of Glasgow seal!
