I've read Drums of Autumn in German (I started with that one cos that was the first one by Barbara Schnell :-)) and I tried to read Outlander in Turkish. I'm pretty well fluent in Turkish, but my reading level is way behind my reading level in English, so I get frustrated at times at my own slowness, and find it easier to turn to whichever other English book is on my TBR pile. But then I also found some errors in the Turkish one that were a bit, well... darn, if only they'd hired me as copy editor! Right near the beginning, where Uncle Lamb flings Claire's bowler hat out the window, calling it a 'ruddy thing' - they translated that as 'red thing'! I mean, seriously, even a cursory search on the internet for British slang would have turned up a definition! Similar things come up in the Turkish versions of Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings, unfortunately.
Anyway, someday I hope to finish it and see if they've translated the rest into Turkish...Deniz Bevanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17134553551048836979noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7379581147262228210.post-68802122903963592492010-06-19T01:26:16.530-04:002010-06-19T01:26:16.530-04:00Karen

The translation is pretty good, quite a few of my friends read it and loved it but no book in translation is the same as reading the original.
ElleAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
