Most romantic OUTLANDER quote?

Happy Valentine's Day

In honor of Valentine's Day, here's a question for all of you:

What do you think is the most romantic quote from the OUTLANDER books?

For me, it's hard to pick just one, but I like this one very much:

"And when my body shall cease, my soul will still be yours. Claire--I swear by my hope of heaven, I will not be parted from you."

(From Drums of Autumn by Diana Gabaldon, chapter 16 ("The First Law of Thermodynamics"). Copyright© 1997 by Diana Gabaldon. All rights reserved.)

That's from the scene in DRUMS where Jamie and Claire discover the site of Fraser's Ridge, and they discuss the prospect of Jamie's death. (One of those scenes that always makes me cry.)

What about the rest of you? Do you have a favorite romantic quote from the books?

I still love the last line of The Fiery Cross: "When the day shall come that we do part," he said softly, and turned to look at me, "if my last words are not 'I love you'-ye'll ken it was because I didna have time."

Yes, definitely, that's one of my favorites as well! What a wonderful line to end the book on. :-)

For me the hands down best quote from The Books is one from Dragonfly in Amber, prior to Claire leaving Jamie. Jamie is discussing his character flaws and telling Claire what will be held in the balance to save him.

"Lord, ye gave me a rare woman, and God! I loved her well."

Page 904 in my copy of DiA. I must say, I love all three of those quotes, but particularly the one in tFC (Julie's) :).

Fiery Cross hands down: "When the day shall come that we do part," he said softly, and turned to look at me, "if my last words are not 'I love you'-ye'll ken it was because I didna have time."

This one gets me all the time!!

Sigh - I hate to be a copycat but I truly love "Lord, ye gave me a rare woman, and God! I loved her well." Love, love it! Especially since Jamie said it in the depths of despair and on the edge of what he thought would be his last few moments on earth!

Not necessarily that romantic - but the part in The Fiery Cross that touched me was when Jamie was telling Claire about seeing his mother and baby brother in the coffin after she had died in childbirth. He tells Claire that his mother "hadna one grey hair"...

"To see the years touch ye gives me joy, Sassenach," he whispered, "--for it means that ye live."

What does it mean ‘he didna have time’ I’m not getting it.

I always took it to mean that that's what he would plan to have his last words be unless he dies before he has a chance to say that.
