New podcast from Diana

Here is a link to the latest podcast from Diana Gabaldon, which was just posted on her web site.

Thanks very much to Merrymags at LOL for putting the word out!

For those of you who've been following Diana's recent blog entries, there's really not much news here, other than:

1) LORD JOHN AND THE PRIVATE MATTER will be out in mass market paperback in October.

2) The "Dirty Scottsdale" story may be out as early as February or March of 2009 (check the publisher's web site here)

3) Diana does indeed intend to publish an OUTLANDISH COMPANION VOLUME II at some point.

The podcast includes a brief excerpt from the upcoming Lord John story, "The Custom of the Army".

I enjoyed listening to this and I hope you will too.

My thanks for keeping us up to date on what DG is doing, you are really on top of it all and doing a wonderful job!!

I love your all your postings to your blog site. They invoke thought and discussion about all the books and the little insights you provide (like the pictures) or today’s post regarding the standing stone article on CompuServe was great too!!

I am enjoying your blog -- I love your 'links' to the Compuserve board that keep me informed of important news/issues involving DG and her writings. Are you open to some suggestions for your blog? You seem so well-informed about the books, I would like to see some interactive activities with other readers; how about selecting a theme, character, plot point, literary element, (or even a mini reread), and asking posters to get involved searching through the books to find their favorites related to your chosen topic. For example, the concept of the importance of "home and hearth" is a strong theme when DG takes us to Lallybroch and The Ridge....do you find elements of your idea of "home" in The Ridge or Lallybroch? What are some favorite descriptive paragraphs about The Ridge and Lallybroch? Or, another idea may be to focus on the use of "humor" in the books. There have been times I've just laughed out loud at some of the things the characters say! Just some thoughts.

Thanks for the suggestions. I am very new to blogging, and obviously I'm still trying to think of ways to make this blog interesting and informative for other people. (To be honest, it's so new that I am still a little amazed to see that people have in fact found their way here <g>.)

If you are interested in in-depth book discussions, particularly around a theme, I would definitely recommend starting with the Ladies of Lallybroch Books Board. (Just curious: are you the same Frances who posts there occasionally? If so, then I apologize for telling you something you already know.) I certainly don't intend to set myself up in competition with LOL in terms of these discussions! For one thing, LOL is much better equipped for a wide-ranging discussion involving many different people. For another, it's much easier to have a discussion like that on a site like LOL that allows messages to be placed in threads, so you can keep track of who's replying to whom.

I'm still not sure yet just how this blog will evolve. Right now I see it primarily as a place to share information (as I become aware of it) and opinions (as time permits -- because I do tend to get a little long-winded sometimes, as those who know me from Compuserve will attest <wry g>) about anything and everything related to the OUTLANDER books. We'll see how things go. But I will definitely keep your suggestions in mind.

Thanks for your response, Karen. No, I am not the Frances who posts on other Outlander boards as I am relatively new to Outlander sites. I have been reading the books since around the time Fiery Cross was published, so I was very lucky to be able to be able to begin with Outlander and read all the way through to Fiery Cross without a long wait!! Then I discovered recently the LOL site, and there seems to be quite alot going on there and it will take me some time to navigate it and learn all the intricacies of that site. What I like about your new blog is that it is current and informative (without being intimidating);) I'll definitely be checking in to see how your blog develops and evolves over time. Good luck!
