A title for Book 8!

Diana Gabaldon has announced the title for Book 8!

WRITTEN IN MY OWN HEART'S BLOOD

[UPDATE 9/8/2011 5:17 pm: The wording of the title has changed slightly since the initial announcement. I've updated the title here to reflect what Diana is now calling it. For Diana's latest comments about the title, look here.

I really like this title. My first thought is that it has LOTS of potential for multiple meanings.

This title suggests to me that this book is going to be more character-focused than ECHO, with less of an emphasis on external events, and more time devoted to exploring the relationships between the characters. I hope that proves to be the case.

I think it's a great choice! <g> Can't wait to see what everybody else thinks about it.

If you want to tell Diana what you think of this title, you can post in the thread on Compuserve, or on her blog here. And by all means, feel free to post your reaction here on my blog as well. (Pro or con.)

Ooooh, I like it! Thanks for sharing this, Karen! Like you said, so much potential - the wheels in my mind are already spinning, thinking of what it might mean.... :-)

I love it, and I hope that you are right about it meaning more character development/relationship stuff, that is after all what I fell in love with in the Outlander series.

My fear / prediction though would be that it means that someone is going to bleed/die - and I don't know if I can take that.

I'm not so sure about this one... So far this morning, I've seen it written as WRITTEN IN MY HEART'S OWN BLOOD, WRITTEN WITH MY OWN HEART'S BLOOD and WRITTEN WITH MY HEART'S OWN BLOOD! I'm confused... LOL!
I'l be sure to read it, though, no matter what the title!

The exact wording may change slightly. Diana's blog post about the title has now been amended to give the title as WRITTEN WITH MY OWN HEART'S BLOOD.

What a great title, along the lines of "A Breath of Snow and Ashes"...at first it struck me as being too long, but looking at it again, it is very descriptive, fewer words wouldn't do it justice. My DS's reaction - "it's going to be a great read!" to which I completely agree!

That's very different, in that it's the only title in the first-person narrative. It makes me think this will be the last book.

While I LOVE the title and more so the fact that there IS a title!! I think it could be a wee bit shorter, more like 'With My Heart's Own Blood' - leaving off the 'Written With'. That said, it's a perfect title for the grand finale. *sniff*

Shannon - we don't know that this is the last book! Diana keeps saying that she doesn't know yet if it is or not, and I certainly hope it isn't!

Karen,

Love your theory that this book will be character driven!

Frankie,

I thought the same thing! I find it very interesting the title is first person. I don't want to believe this is the final book though. Diana has mentioned before that a triple trilogy sounds good. Here's to hoping we get a book 9!

Lara, I now that Diana put some clarification on her blog, I see that it really isn't first person; the "my" is part of the expression "my heart's blood", which is an English translation of a Gaelic term of endearment. Also, she clarified that it doesn't imply it is the end of the series. It sounded to me at first that the title (if was first-person) was a wrap up. Now, I'm guessing that the title refers to something "written" (obvious meaning) "with" (or together with) "my" (someone's) "own" (biological) "heart's blood" (child or grandchild). Check out Diana's blog, and see what you thing.

Frankie,

Yes! I saw this late last night. Makes it even more interesting! I also appreciate her addressing all the "doom and gloom" comments the title seems to be getting from everyone. I didn't find it ominous or a sign of bad things to come at all. I'm really excited to see her explanation of where the title came from. Now that Book 8 has a name, it's like it's real! Now we wait! :)
