Diana Gabaldon's interview with Wake County Public Libraries!
Diana Gabaldon had a very interesting interview via Zoom yesterday, the final session in the "OUTLANDER: Highlands to Carolina" series of online programs offered by the Wake County (NC) Public Libraries.
I thoroughly enjoyed Diana's virtual talk with Erin and Heidi, librarians and OUTLANDER fans! It was a fun evening. They asked some great questions, and Diana seemed to be enjoying herself. She read an excerpt from Book 10, but I didn't listen to it, as I'm a longtime excerpt-avoider.
I found it refreshing that this was a very "book-centric" interview, where the OUTLANDER TV show was barely mentioned (other than a brief reference to Sam's Sassenach whisky) and BOMB, not at all. I guess this is what happens when you have librarians asking the questions! That gave them more time to ask some questions that were different from the usual ones, including a round of "This or That" which was very entertaining.
The only bit of news in this interview was that Diana is leaving the possibility open for further stories involving Jamie and Claire after A BLESSING FOR A WARRIOR GOING OUT (Book 10) is published. Perhaps a shorter piece set during the timeframe of the Big Books, similar to the stories in SEVEN STONES TO STAND OR FALL, if she comes up with an idea for a story she wants to write.
I was delighted to get a shout-out not once but TWICE during the Zoom session, for my help in facilitating Diana's appearance at this event. I helped Erin make contact with Diana via email, on three separate occasions over the course of this year, to discuss arrangements for this program. Mostly by saying, "Diana, would you please check your email? Erin's trying to reach you." <g> I'm SO glad they were able to make it happen!
As a longtime resident of Wake County, I'm really pleased to see my local library providing such an interesting and informative series of virtual programs to OUTLANDER fans all over the world (they had people sign up from all 50 states and 42 countries!) For free, no less. <g> THANK YOU to Erin and Heidi and everyone else at the Wake County Public Libraries who put these programs together for us!
For those of you who missed it, a recording of this session will be available in the coming weeks. I'll update this post with the link to the video as soon as it's available.
