Spookiest moments in the OUTLANDER books

With Halloween approaching, I thought it might be fun to talk about some of the spookiest, scariest, or most eerie moments in Diana Gabaldon's books. What are some of your favorites?

Here are a few of mine:

- Margaret Campbell speaking in Brianna's voice, in the "crocodile" scene in VOYAGER (Chapter 61, "The Crocodile's Fire"). That always gives me shivers, especially the audio version!

- Claire seeing Otter-Tooth's ghost in DRUMS OF AUTUMN (Chapter 23, "The Skull Beneath the Skin"), and her shoes appearing on the doorstep of their cabin on the Ridge.

- Lord John's encounter with a zombie in his bedchamber, in "Plague of Zombies".

What about the rest of you?

Oh, for sure ... the encounter with Bree through Margaret! Gives me CHILLS and goosebumps every time I read/hear it! The next one is probably the ghost story that was related through Duncan and Jamie that Gavin had talked about and the subsequent encounter with the "ghost" in the wagon!

Rob Cameron gives me the chills... corbies picking out jellified eyes is pretty gruesome... and I'm not real fond of Obidiah Henderson. Willie, Rachel and Denzel's encounter in the cabin is another rather freaky encounter that sets off goosebumps...

I was driving home from work late one very foggy night. I work in central London and happened to be driving past the site of the Tyburn gallows just as I was listening to the audiobook of The Brotherhood of the Blade and the description of Lord John "assisting" the hanging of Mr Bates. It was extremely spooky! If places hold memories of the momentous events that happen in them, I felt it that night. I was discomfited for days and still get a shiver down my spine thinking about it.
